Every year we hold a Panther Pounce walk-a-thon as our main fundraiser! This year was so much fun!! On Friday September 30th the students came out and walked/ran on the 100-mile track. The 100-mile track is a third of a mile long. Each time the kids came out they got a tally mark on their shirts. Each group of kids (4th & 5th, 2nd & 3rd, 1st and Kinder) had 20 minutes to walk/run the track, then 10 minutes for a snack or an impromptu dance party. Some kids choose to skip the snack and keep on running. During their time out we had 3 kids that ran a total of 7 laps, that’s 2 1/3 miles. In fact, the entire school ran/walked a total of 563 laps which is 187.66 mile!! That’s like walking to the Wyoming boarder and back twice.
The kids also smashed the goal of raising $2500 by $1000. In total (including envelopes brought in this week) they brought in $3500!!! This money will be added to the amount previously raised by the PTU for new playground equipment and other school needs. For example, every year the PTU pays for several busses for class field trips.
Now if you ask any Van Buren student what happens when they smashed their fundraising goal this year? They will tell you that they got to turn the principal into an Ice Cream Sundae!! Yes, real ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, sprinkles, cherries and even whip cream! The kids had so much fun with pouring all these yummy toppings on Mrs. Randazzo. Even the teachers got in on the action.
A Big THANK You to all the Van Buren Community that came together to help in this fundraiser!!
The Shirts were such a big hit and many of you have asked for one that we are looking at doing a special order of shirts in the up coming weeks. We will be sending home information with students but you can also watch the website and Facebook for more information.
